Alex Garner

President

Alex is a senior associate within Mourant’s Litigation and Dispute Resolution practice. He advises on a broad range of complex and high value commercial matters with particular experience in contentious trust issues, contractual disputes and insolvency.

Prior to joining Mourant in 2021 he worked for another global law firm in Guernsey, after returning to the island having qualified at Burges Salmon in Bristol.

William Schofield

Vice President

William Schofield is a senior associate in Walkers’ Investment Funds & Corporate group in Guernsey.
William advises on all areas of corporate law within the jurisdiction’s financial and insurance sectors.

His M&A practice has seen him advise on some of Guernsey’s most notable deals of the past few years and he has frequently advised where cross-border considerations have played a significant factor. He also has experience with deals involving the local regulators; the Guernsey Financial Services Commission and GCRA.

Henry Simpson

Treasurer

Henry is a senior associate at a local leading law firm, having grown up on the island. He was called to the Bar of England and Wales (The Honourable Society of Gray’s Inn) in 2016, called as an Advocate of the Royal Court of Guernsey in 2018, and admitted to the Roll of Solicitors of England and Wales in 2020. He also sits on the editorial board of the Institute of Law Guernsey, a local charity behind reforms to the process of becoming a Guernsey Advocate, and is a council member of Male Uprising Guernsey, a local charity focused around increasing awareness and promoting education around the symptoms and treatment of prostate bowel and testicular cancers.

Rebecca Hale

Rebecca Hale is an senior associate in Walkers’ Insolvency and Dispute Resolution Practice Group in Guernsey. She was admitted to the roll of Solicitors of England and Wales in 2015 and moved to Guernsey in 2016 after working and completing her training contract at a boutique litigation practice in the City of London. Rebecca advises on all aspects of corporate and commercial disputes including contentious trust matters, administrations and insolvencies, regulatory matters and general civil and commercial litigation. Rebecca has served on the GILA committee since July 2019. Rebecca is a fluent Welsh speaker, having grown up in Wales.

Sarah Ball

Events & Content Secretary

Sarah Ball is an associate in Walker’s Guernsey Insolvency and Dispute Resolution Practice Group and advises on contentious trusts matters, insolvencies, and commercial litigation.

Sarah has onshore and offshore experience in advising on a wide range of disputes, working with corporates and HNWIs, mainly on cross-border matters.

Prior to joining Walkers in February 2023, Sarah worked with two boutique law firms in Cape Town, where she advised on wide-ranging matters from estates disputes, intellectual property litigation, family law matters (including child abductions cases) and company liquidations.

She has been admitted as a South African Attorney since 2021.

Xongy Chabalala

Events & Content Secretary
Xongy is an associate in Ogier’s Dispute Resolution team in Guernsey. She has a foundation in corporate and commercial law. Her career highlights include successfully leading a major gambling acquisition across five of South Africa’s nine provinces, winning a High Court matter on behalf of a major Johannesburg Stock Exchange listed mining company, and representing the State in complex statutory claims and contractual disputes. Xongotelo has a dynamic and zealous approach to litigation and has successfully carried matters from inception to judgment, including winning cases in the South African Labour Court, Supreme Court of Appeal and the Constitutional Court.

Cara Fitzpatrick

Nominee

Cara is a trainee in Carey Olsen’s litigation team.

Before joining Carey Olsen in 2024, Cara graduated in 2023 from Liverpool John Moores University after attaining a first class (Hons) degree in Law and then went on to study her LPC/LLM. Cara is now working towards completing the SQE 2.

Sandie Lyne

Nominee

Sandie is a Partner at Ogier with extensive experience commercial and financial dispute resolution, especially contentious trusts, restructuring, insolvency, and regulatory matters. Sandie is a long-standing member of the GILA Committee having previously served as President, Vice President and Treasurer.  Sandie moved to Guernsey in 2014 and loves cliff walking, swimming and living by the sea.

Kim Courtney

Nominee

Kim is an associate in the dispute resolution and employment team at Carey Olsen. She previously worked in the corporate department and therefore brings a unique insight to commercial litigation and employment disputes.

Kim deals with both individual and commercial clients, providing advice covering a wide range of litigation and employment matters. Kim prides herself on working closely with clients, bringing a personal touch to her legal practice.

Jenny McVeigh

Committee Member

Poacher turned gamekeeper, Jenny moved to Guernsey in 2016 to take up a role as a criminal prosecutor, having been a criminal defence solicitor advocate in England for 10 years. After a decade of touring the police stations and courts of the South East, a change of pace was in order, and Jenny was very glad she spotted the advert for her role! Jenny was called to the Bar as Guernsey Advocate in 2019.

Life by the sea was a life-long dream, and Jenny tries to make the most of everything life on this small island has to offer.

Raphael Chitambira

Committee Member

Raphael is an Associate in Appleby’s Corporate department in Guernsey. Raphael was admitted as an Attorney of the High Court of South Africa in 2019, having trained and qualified at Norton Rose Fulbright South Africa (which included a short secondment at Anglo American Limited), followed by spending a year at Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr in South Africa.

Koketso Mathebula

Committee Member

Koketso is well experienced in commercial litigation and regulatory advisory with a keen focus on contentious trust disputes, varied contractual disputes and insolvency proceedings. His regulatory focus is in Privacy, Data Protection, eGaming/Gambling, Technology (including AI), Cyber Security and AML/CFT/CPF compliance.

Stuart Nash

Committee Member

Stuart is a Senior Associate working across Corporate and Property teams.

Stuart trained at a City firm, qualifying as a Solicitor (England & Wales) in 2014.  He then spent a number of years working in the City, with his practice being largely focused on mergers and acquisitions and property deals in the healthcare sector.

After relocating to Guernsey in 2019, Stuart spent more than two years building his offshore practice with another Guernsey-based offshore law firm before joining Ferbrache & Farrell in January 2022.
